How Much Is 100 Subs on Twitch, Really? (After the Split and the Tax)

A hundred subscribers feels like a milestone worth a real paycheck — and at $4.99 a sub, it looks like $499 a month. It isn’t. By the time 100 subs becomes money in your bank, Twitch has taken half and the tax office wants its share of the rest. Here’s what 100 subs on Twitch actually pays.

The sticker price vs the split

Twitch subscriptions default to a 50/50 split. On a Tier 1 sub ($4.99), you keep $2.50. So the honest starting number for 100 Tier 1 subs is $250 a month, not $499.

100 Tier-1 subs a month: $250 at 50/50, $300 at 60/40, $350 at 70/30.
100 Tier-1 subs a month: $250 at 50/50, $300 at 60/40, $350 at 70/30.

You can improve the split, but only by earning it through the Plus Program: hold 100 Plus Points for three straight months for 60/40 ($300 from 100 subs), or reach 300 points for 70/30 ($350). Most streamers with exactly 100 subs are still at 50/50 — so $250 is the realistic figure.

Higher tiers pay more per sub — Tier 2 nets you $5.00, Tier 3 nets $12.50 — but the vast majority of subs are Tier 1, so a “100 subs” community is almost always a ~$250 community.

Then the tax office

Streaming income is self-employment income, and that carries a 15.3% self-employment tax on top of ordinary income tax. Even before income tax, that trims $250 to about $212.

$250 from 100 subs becomes about $212 after the 15.3% self-employment tax alone.

Add federal and state income tax and the take-home is lower still. None of it is hidden — it’s just the difference between “100 subs” as a badge and “100 subs” as income.

What 100 subs really means

  • At 50/50: ~$250/month gross, ~$212 after self-employment tax, before income tax.
  • You clear Twitch’s $100 payout comfortably — 100 subs is well past the 40-sub minimum — so the money does actually reach you, around the 15th of the following month.
  • It’s recurring, but not guaranteed. Subs lapse; a “100 sub” month can be an “80 sub” month next time. The number that matters is how many hold, month after month.

A hundred loyal subscribers is a genuine achievement and a real few-hundred-dollars-a-month. It just isn’t $499, and treating the gross as spendable — before the split and the tax — is how streamers end up surprised at tax time. How much is 1,000 subs on Twitch?

Roughly $2,500 a month at 50/50 (1,000 × $2.50), or up to $3,500 at 70/30 — before self-employment and income tax.

How many subs to make a living on Twitch?

At 50/50, a minimum-wage-equivalent income (~$1,200–$1,500/month) takes roughly 500–600 Tier 1 subs held every month — before tax.
